After 11 years of installing, removing, and servicing underground and aboveground petroleum storage tank systems out of their main office in Hillsboro, Wisconsin, METCO wanted to be able to assist their clients with the ever-increasing burden of environmental issues facing old gas stations. Thus, METCO hired Ron Anderson, P.G., in 1990 to develop and operate an environmental department located out of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Ron had graduated with an Earth Science Degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1989 and worked 8 months in the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Program for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. METCO’s main goal was to help existing and new clients achieve the following: 1) Comply with all state and federal environmental rules without financial burden, 2) Make sure that the governmental rules are fair and just, and 3) Achieve site closure to reclaim property values and investments.

In the process of achieving these goals for our petroleum tank clients, METCO Environmental naturally expanded to additional areas including Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments, Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments, Spill Investigations, Agricultural Chemical Releases, Dry Cleaner Chemical Releases, Brownfield Projects, and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plans. METCO’s goals and representation remained the same for these projects.

METCO’s long-term personnel have been key in our success, which include Jason Powell (13 years), Eric Dahl (8.5 years), Tom Pignet (8 years), Debby Skogen (7.5 Years), and Diana Symitczek (7.5 Years). Their skills, hard work, and dedication are a definite asset to our company and clients. Our two newest employees, Brandon Walker and Aaron Nichols, appear to have bright future at METCO as well.

Probably the most impressive fact about METCO Environmental is that we have either achieved “state closure” or confirmed “no contamination” at a total of 507 different properties in Wisconsin and Minnesota. This was only possible through our integrity and hard work, as well as the development of sincere and long-term relationships with our clients and state regulatory agency personnel. We have been rewarded for our efforts as METCO Environmental currently represents more petroleum contaminated sites in Wisconsin than any other environmental consulting company. We are known for being able to take over where previous consultants have failed and get the government to compromise on limited and affordable workscopes.
